February 3rd is the deadline for returning the parent satisfaction survey that was mailed to you.  Don't miss this opportunity to rate your child's school and the education programs in our county. 

Parents of PWCS students who did not receive a survey or misplaced the one that was mailed, can contact the Office of Program Evaluation at 703-791-7277 for a replacement.

Gar-Field Student wins MLK Oratorical Contest

This year's winner of the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest is our own Sadiyah Faruk - a talented, enthusiastic sophomore.  Sadiyah won Best Performance Before The Judges with her flawless speech that motivated and challenged the audience.  Her coordinator, Mrs. Paulette Jones, commented that Sadiyah is one of the most dedicated and determined participants that she has worked with during the past nineteen years. 






 
Come out and support Gar-Field's It's Academic team

Be in the live studio audience on Saturday, February 4th, at 10:30 am as the Indians It’s Academic team takes on Maryland's Blake High School and La Plata High School in a first-round match, with the winner moving on the quarterfinals.

Admission is FREE to be in the live studio audience—and to get yourself on TV—so plan now to come down to the NBC-4 studios at 4001 Nebraska Avenue NW, Washington, DC to root your Gar-Field team on to victory in It’s Academic’s 51st season on the air. This game will air on TV on Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 am on channel 4.




2012-2013 Course Registration Begins February 6th

Registration for 2012-2013 classes will begin on February 6th.   A full list of available classes can be found here. There will be no elective fair this year, so students are encouraged to explore this document carefully before making course selections.  Please contact the Gar-Field School Counseling Department with questions at 703-730-7117.




Touching Bases Mini Parent Teacher Conferences

                      February 10, 2012
                      7:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Touching Bases is the opportunity to have a mini-meeting with some of your student’s teachers. There are no appointments! These short (3-5 minute) meetings are on a first come/first serve basis. All teachers will be located in the gym.

Students should be at their normal bus stop three hours later than the usual time. Please note: the school WILL provide Breakfast and Lunch for students on this day. The schedule for February 10th is a blue day. 

Parents: You will be able to return your Parent Portal printed email to activate your account.  Apply online ahead of time using the Parent Portal link at the left. 

Financial Aid Help: Counselors will be available in the Library to help you fill out the FAFSA forms.  Please go to this web site to make sure to have all the papers that you will need. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/help/before003.htm


IB Specialty Program Application

The PWCS Specialty Program application deadline is fast approaching.  In an effort to reduce the impact on the environment and improve efficiency, Prince William County Public High Schools is using an easy-to-use online application.  Students residing in Prince William County on January 1 must submit the required applciation from by February 15 to be considered for admission to a specialty program.

Register for your new Parent Portal account today!  Parent Portal replaces Edulink.  All parents need to register for the new Parent Portal. 

Click on the Parent Portal link at the left of the web page to register for a new account or to log into your activated account.

Bring your email confirmation to Gar-Field for activation any school day from 7:00 am to 3:45 pm.

NEW FEATURES:
1) When you login for the first time after January 7th, you will be asked to set up a security question.  If you forget your password, a correct answer to this question will allow the system to send you a new temporary password.

2) When you click on the Assignments pencil, you may choose which marking period grades to view from the drop down menu.  We are currently in Marking Period 2.

Order your Gar-Field Yearbook now!

Monday, January 23rd
is the last day students can order a namestamp for their yearbook.  Students wishing to have their name stamped on their yearbook must pre-order the yearbook.  To pre-order your yearbook and namestamp, please see Mrs. Jacques in room 1410 or order online using the Herff Jones link below.  Gar-Field's job number is 4970.  Students can reserve their yearbook with a $20 down payment.  Currently, the yearbook is $60 and the namestamp is an additional $10.  For any questions contact Mrs. Jacques by email jacqueci@pwcs.edu or phone at 703-730-7183.

Activity Buses 2011 -2012

Activity buses provide transportation for students who stay after school for academic or extra-curricular activities.

Buses depart at 4:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Monday through Thursday for academic, athletic, and/or club activities

There are NO Activity buses on Friday

Driver Education Mandatory Parent/Student Meeting Schedule

Parents/guardians and their student drivers are required to attend a 90-minute traffic safety program as part of the in-classroom portion of the driver education curriculum. 
  • The Driver Education Parent meeting requires that the parent/guardian and the student attend together.
  • In accordance with Virginia State code, § 22.1-205 Driver education programs, the presentation is required to be 90 minutes in length. Times are 7:00 - 8:30 PM on week nights and 10:00 - 11:30 AM on scheduled Saturdays.
  • The presentation will begin promptly at the start time of 7:00 PM on week nights and 10:00 AM on the three Saturday dates.
  • Doors will be open at 6:30 PM on week nights and 9:30 AM on scheduled Saturdays.  No one will be admitted after the presentation begins.
  • Cell phones and/or electronic devices must be turned off.

Student Parking Permits

All students who drive to Gar-Field High School must have a valid parking permit on the vehicle.  To obtain a parking permit, fill out the Student Parking Permit Application and bring the completed form to Mr. Russell in the Security Office.

We welcome your checks at Gar-Field High School.  However, if your check is returned for any reason, we will electronically present it to your bank for the face value plus a $35.00 processing fee.  Any protest or bad check return fee charged by your financial institution, and all other charges, interest, and attorney's fees are your responsibility.   This action will be taken without further notice.  
We reserve the right to decline your check.
